The 2018 Christmas Monorail Resort Tour at Walt Disney World

Jake and I have always been bad at traditions. Usually, it's because we're working on different projects when the holidays roll around. It's tough to repeat a celebration if you don't know what state you'll be in. Side Note: I accidentally typed, "when the holidays toll around." For whom the It's a Wonderful Life bell tolls, am I right?

We finally managed to cement a tradition. I flew back from my museum in the mid-west and we managed to get sushi at Disney's Polynesian Resort on Christmas Eve two years in a row. AND we brought one of our very best friends.

And hey, if you're going to the Polynesian, you might as well ride the monorail and see it all. So this is Christmas 2018 from Walt Disney World.

Here's Disney's Polynesian Resort all decked out for Christmas

All the lights are lovely shades of orange and blue. I guess now is also a good time to mention that half of these were taken with my old iPhone. So...not fancy. But they still serve decent vacay vibes.

All the ornaments are tropical flowers, fish, and boats. This next pic has nothing to do with Christmas, it just makes me really happy in the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, adventure-vibes sorta way.

You may have seen this on my Insta story, it's the Kona Cafe on Christmas Eve

And here's a view from the top

From here, it was on to The Grand Floridian

And the famous Gingerbread house. True story, back in grad school, I bought all of Samantha Brown's Disney specials on iTunes. I'd watch them and wonder what it might be like to live there. Then in 2011, I basically moved to Disney World. So there it is, kids. Buy your future on iTunes and let it unfold.

We wandered around for a few minutes taking in the sights and sounds.

Then it was off to Disney's Contemporary, where it still blows my mind that I get to see an authentic Mary Blair in person.

Here's the Gingerbread house at the Contemporary

And we finished the night at the Top of the World.

The literal Top of the World lounge, which you can see on my Insta story at @audreyscleverusername

And finally, it was back to the Polynesian.

Wherever you are, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Eve. I feel so grateful that I got to be home with my husband and our dear friend. I feel so grateful that we made it through 2018, which has been, at times, kind of scary on the world stage. And most of all, I'm grateful to celebrate the birth of Christ, who came to save the world. I really believe that.

It's thanks to Him that I'm living the life I am. Not to say that I think God is a genie, just that I want to express gratitude. The Bible says every good and perfect thing comes from Him, so when I feel thankful, I make sure to point that gratitude straight in His direction. I'd be happy to tell you more about why if you ever want to dm me.

In the meantime, I wish you a very Merry Christmas day and a 2019 full of love, travel, and adventure.
